Samuel B. Cushman is a musician, scholar, and educator based in upstate New York. His percussive pursuits include drum kit (particularly funk, rock, and breakbeat drumming), Hindustani (North Indian) tabla and pakhawaj, and Indonesian gamelan. He holds a Ph.D. in Music from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2023) with a specialization in cross-cultural musicology. Like his creative practice, his teaching, research, and scholarship explore musical histories and encounters that span North America, South Asia, and the African diaspora.
